Attracting investment is a vital part of moving from vision to execution

Developing prototypes, testing and taking a product to market can require a lot of capital investment. There are many different ways for your business to attract funding for growth. You can look for investment privately or apply for loans or grant programs run by government.

Grants and funding

If you’re doing business in Australia, there are many grants, funding and support programs from across all levels of government. Business.gov.au has created a grant finder tool to collect them together and help you search for ones that are right for you.

Priority Investment Program

The Priority Investment Program (PIP) can help kick-start the next stage of your business. The program brings together industry and universities. It allows them to collaborate and solve industry, research and business problems in their industry sector.

If you have an innovative business idea or need help solving an industry problem, PIP can provide funding. The program will match your contribution dollar for dollar.

Venture capital and capital investment

If you’ve got a great idea, you might want to look at venture capital (VC) funding to help your business grow. Private equity from a VC fund can take you from idea to execution. If you’re in the early stages of your company, you can consider pitching to a fund for backing.

There is currently one venture capital fund located in the ACT, Significant Early Venture Capital. However, the ACT Government plans to launch a new venture capital fund in 2025. The new fund will support Canberra’s start-ups with the capital investment they need to grow. More information will be available soon.

There are also Australian and international VC funds that could invest in your company.
