Manage your online gambling
Exclude yourself from online and phone gambling
You can use the Australian Government’s BetStop to exclude yourself from all Australian licensed online and phone gambling.
If you register with BetStop, online and phone gambling providers will not be able to:
- let you place a bet
- let you open new betting accounts
- send you marketing messages.
To find out more, visit BetStop.
Set limits for how much and how often you gamble
You can ask your betting provider to help you set a limit.
You can set a limit on how much money you can:
- deposit into your account
- keep in your account
- place on each bet, as a maximum.
You can set your betting account to turn off (deactivate) at regular times. This will help you take short breaks and avoid losing track of time.
Stop marketing messages
Stop messages like special offers by turning off phone notifications in:
- the gambling apps and websites you use
- your phone and browser settings.
Block gambling on your debit cards
Your bank may allow you to block gambling transactions on your debit cards. Or, it may already have automatic gambling blocks.
Sometimes blocks expire and you’ll need to reapply the block.
To find out how to block gambling transactions on your card, contact your bank.
You cannot use a credit card or digital currency to place bets. Online and telephone gambling services must not accept payments using these methods.
If a betting company has offered you credit, you can complain to the Australian Communication and Media Authority.
Block overseas websites and apps
Overseas websites and apps do not abide by the consumer protection laws that apply in Australia.
If you’ve already opened an overseas account:
- try to close it
- block payments.
You can also:
- install ad blockers to stop ads and pop-ups
- install geo-filters to block international gambling sites.
