Young Canberra Citizen of the Year Award
The Young Canberra Citizen of the Year Awards recognise Canberrans aged 12 to 25 who’ve made a significant contribution to our community.
The awards celebrate young people for achievements in sport, education, science, culture, the arts and the environment.
Who you can nominate
We encourage young people with a wide range of backgrounds and life experiences to apply. You can nominate yourself or someone else.

Award categories
There are 7 award categories. You can nominate an individual or a group for more than one category.
Young Canberra Citizen of the Year Award
This award recognises an individual aged 12 to 25 who:
- is an exceptional role model
- has championed youth issues
- has significantly contributed to the ACT.
This award is sponsored by Beyond Bank Australia.
Young Achiever Award
This award recognises an individual aged 12 to 15 who:
- is an exceptional role model
- has championed youth issues
- has significantly contributed to the ACT.
This award is sponsored by the ACT Youth Advisory Council.
Personal Achievement Award
This award recognises an individual who has:
- overcome adversity to achieve their goals
- shown exceptional commitment to achieving their goals
- championed the values of young people in the ACT.
This award is sponsored by Anglicare ACT.
Individual Community Service Award
This award recognises an individual who has:
- made a significant contribution to the promotion of community services
- championed the values of volunteering and community services
- shown exceptional commitment to ACT youth community services.
This award is sponsored by Youth InterACT.
Environment and Sustainability Award
This award recognises an individual or a group who have:
- contributed to protecting our unique environment and achieving a more sustainable ACT
- promoted environmentally responsible behaviour
- contributed towards a cleaner, greener, Canberra
- made positive change at a local level.

Arts and Multimedia Award
This award recognises an individual or a group who have:
- excelled in the arts
- shown best practice in using art, multimedia or social media to promote youth issues
- used art, multimedia or social media to empower and inspire young people.
This award is sponsored by the ACT Government.
Group Achievement Award
This award recognises a group or team who have:
- delivered initiatives that benefit young people
- championed the values and needs of young people
- provided opportunities and services to young people in the ACT community.
This award is sponsored by the Australian Catholic University.
How to nominate
You need to fill in a separate nomination form for each category.
To nominate online:
- choose the award category
- attach supporting material
- submit your nomination before the close date.
Give a copy of your nomination form to any referees. This will help if the selection panel gets in contact with them.
How we choose a winner
The nominations are assessed by representatives from the:
- ACT Youth Advisory Council
- ACT Government
- award category sponsor.
The winners will receive their awards at a ceremony on 29 November 2024.
