An ACT Government Website

ACT Health collects reports of notifiable conditions in the ACT for the Chief Health Officer.

We investigate these reports to prevent the spread of disease. This includes investigating and managing outbreaks.

We collect data from these reports and review and analyse it to:

  • know about emerging public health issues
  • recommend public health responses.

Notifiable conditions

Under the Public Health Act 1997, there are certain conditions that certain people must report. We call these notifiable conditions. There are more than 70 notifiable conditions in the ACT.

Find out who has to report a notifiable condition and how they can report it.

Surveillance data

We share our surveillance data with the National Notifiable Disease Surveillance System (NNDSS).

You can find this data on the NNDSS website.

Reporting acute respiratory illness

We track laboratory-confirmed cases of acute respiratory illness (ARI) in the ACT. This includes cases of:

  • influenza
  • respiratory syncytial virus (RSV)
  • COVID-19.

We report on acute respiratory illnesses each week during the colder months of the year, when the number of cases usually increase.
