Free Housing Options Advisory service

When planning your retirement, there are many different types of housing to consider. You might be looking to downsize into a retirement village. If you need more support, an aged care home may be the best choice. If you’d rather stay in your own home, there are home modifications and services to help you.

Council on the Ageing ACT (COTA ACT) can help you make the right choice to suit your needs. Their experienced staff can give you information and advice on:

  • Government and community support services to stay in your own home longer
  • Home modifications or equipment
  • Seniors’ housing and living options, including retirement villages
  • Downsizing to a smaller home or moving in with family or friends
  • Public and private housing options

The ACT Government funds this free service.

Reduced and deferred conveyancing fees

The Pensioner Duty Concession Scheme helps you move somewhere more suited to your needs – for example, downsizing from a house to a townhouse. It reduces the conveyance duty you pay on the home or land.

The Pensioner Duty Deferral Scheme allows you to defer payment of conveyance duty, commonly known as stamp duty.
