Get money to a detainee at the Alexander Maconochie Centre
You can add money to a detainee’s trust account so they can buy things like:
- toiletries
- food and soft drinks
- magazines and newspapers
- credit for telephone calls.
The maximum amount detainees can receive is $150 per week.
Before you start
To get money to a detainee you need a debit card. It can be either a Visa or Mastercard debit card. Transfers from credit cards won’t be accepted.
You will also need the detainee’s:
- Prisoner Identification Number (PID)
- date of birth.
We cannot give these details to you, you can ask the detainee if you don’t know the information.
You can transfer money online or over the phone.
It is free to transfer money.
How to transfer money online
To transfer money to a detainee online:

Enter the detainee’s Prison Identification Number (PID Number) and date of birth.

Follow the prompts to complete the transfer.
How to transfer money over the phone
To transfer money over the phone:
- Call 1300 546 086
- Follow the prompts from the service officer.
How long it takes
Deposits made before 4pm will be in the detainee’s account 4 business days later. If you make a transfer after 4pm, it will take 5 days.
