In brief:

  • Noah overtakes Oliver and Henry as this year’s favourite boy name.
  • Amelia returns as the favourite girl name, topping Charlotte for the first time since 2019.
  • Charlotte maintains a position in the top 10 for the 22nd consecutive year.

Longtime favourites have continued their run in the top 10 baby names, with Amelia and Noah taking the top spots.

While Amelia has been a regular at the top of the list, it is Noah’s first time as the most popular boy name.

It was a consistent year for baby names, with no newcomers to the top 10. All names have ranked in the top 10 at least once since 2022.

Top girl names

Amelia has been in the top 10 since 2011 and it’s the sixth time this name has been at number one. In 2023, Amelia shared the number one spot with Charlotte, which is this year’s number three alongside Ava.

Isla moved up the list from number eight to number two.

Long-term favourite name, Charlotte, extended its streak of being in the top 10 since 2003, but fell from the top spot for the first time since 2019.

Other names that have stood the test of time include Chloe (20th time on the list since 1998), Grace (23rd time on the list since 1995) and Olivia (24th time on the list since 1998).

Noah, which came in equal 7th on the list of boys’ names in 2023, has been in the top 10 each year since 2017. Oliver and Henry, which had occupied the top two positions since 2021, came in at equal 3rd. Theodore moved up the list to second place.

Oliver placed in the top 10 for the 18th time on the list since 2002, while other firm favourites include William (24th consecutive time on the list since 2001) and Thomas (33rd time on the list since 1991).

Muhammad returned to the top 10 for a second time since debuting in 2023. It was also the second time for Arthur to make the list after appearing in the top 10 in 2022.
