This work is part of the project to deliver light rail to Woden.
07 May 2024
All southbound traffic lanes on Commonwealth Avenue have now switched over to the new temporary eastern side track, as the Raising London Circuit project continues.
These temporary roads allows for two lanes of traffic to be kept in each direction on Commonwealth Avenue during peak hours while major works progress on London Circuit.
The next stage of works will be to demolish the northbound Commonwealth Avenue Bridge.
The shared active travel path remains in place for northbound users, while a new southbound shared path supports active travel along the new eastern side track.
Once the northbound bridge is demolished, earthworks and pavements will continue on London Circuit (east and west). A new intersection will be constructed in place of the northbound and southbound bridges.
Northbound and southbound traffic will remain on side track lanes to allow for the construction of the new permanent roads. On completion traffic will be returned to the new Commonwealth Avenue northbound and southbound lanes.
If work is unable to be completed
If work is unable to be completed in this time due to wet weather or other circumstances, it will take place on Monday, 20 May and Sunday, 26 May for partial closure of Commonwealth Avenue southbound only.
In this situation, all southbound lanes would be closed from 6pm Sunday, 26 May, reopening 7am Monday, 27 May.
In the unlikely event work could not proceed on this day either, the closure and transition to the new side track will occur on the night of Sunday, 2 June to Monday, 3 June.
A new shared path will open along the side track
Please note that dates for road closures/works are subject to change.
