One of the best things about the lead up to Christmas is the markets. Christmas markets are the ideal spot to:
- pick up unique gifts for your loved ones
- support local makers and producers
- catch some festive entertainment
- taste delicious food and drink
- get into the festive spirit.
Here are some of Canberra’s Christmas markets in 2024:
Summer German Markets
When: Sunday 1 December from 9am to 1pm
Where: Harmonie German Club, 49 Jerrabomberra Avenue, Narrabundah
This is a family-friendly community event run by the Harmonie German Club. Grab a sausage from the German sausage stall or try a slice of homemade cake. There will also be deli goods and groceries, plus wine, beer and schnapps.
Enjoy browsing the community stallholders selling handmade crafts and goods. There will also be entertainment and a free jumping castle for kids.
When: Every Saturday from 7-21 December, from 9am-2pm
Where: Queen Elizabeth Terrace, Commonwealth Place, Parkes
Why have just one Christmas market when you can have three? The Little Burley Markets are embracing the Christmas spirit with a series of festive events.
Join the fun with festive entertainment, kids' activities and plenty of food and drink. Browse market stalls bursting with goods from local creators and makers.
When: Friday 13 December from 5pm-9pm
Where: Exhibition Park in Canberra, Budawang and Coorong Pavilions, Lyneham
Fill up your Christmas stockings with goods from more than 260 Australian designers and producers. With a huge variety of goods on offer, you’re bound to find something for everyone on your list.

- food and wine.
When: Sunday 24 November, from 11am-4pm
Where: Albert Hall, 100 Commonwealth Avenue, Yarralumla
The Scandinavian Christmas Bazaar is back with its signature cozy vibes. Shop from new and returning stall holders offering gifts, food and homewares.
Watch the children’s Lucia procession and catch live entertainment. There will also be a café with Scandi treats. Don’t forget to buy a raffle ticket for the chance to win a prize.
When: Friday 29 November from 4pm-8:30pm
Where: Hall Heritage Village, Victoria Street, Hall
This one is less of a Christmas market and more of a festive extravaganza. There will be more than 100 vendors to get your Christmas gifts from. You can fuel up from one of the food vans or cafes.
There will also be:
- circus performances
- carol singing
- live music
- community displays, including the Hall Collectors Classic Cars
- a visit from Santa.
When: Saturday 30 November from 9am-5pm
Where: Exhibition Park in Canberra, Mitchell
Do you have a geek in your life? Or perhaps you are the geek. Either way, you’re sure to find the perfect geeky gift at these markets.
Comic artists, cosplayers, creators and traders – they’ll all be at the Geek Markets. You can also try playing upcoming big games and indie games.
When: Every Saturday in December from 8am until 2pm
Where: Haig Park
If you’re looking for a way to immerse yourself in the Christmas spirit, this is it. Gift shopping, carols, culinary delights, gingerbread making and photos with Santa are all on offer.
While browsing the market stalls, you’ll find Christmas puddings, gingerbread, artisan wreaths, stocking and even re-usable bon bons. Haig Village Markets are child and dog friendly, so make it an event with the whole family.
When: Friday 6 – Sunday 9 December from 10am-3pm
Where: AIATSIS, 51 Lawson Crescent, Acton
This one isn’t a Christmas-themed market, but it’s the perfect spot for Christmas shopping.
This is the largest Indigenous art market in Canberra. It showcases a diverse range of works from Indigenous artists, including:
- paintings
- textiles
- sculptures
- and more.
All of the proceeds go back to Indigenous art centres, artists, and their communities.
