- Convo Access makes it easier for Canberrans who are deaf or hard of hearing to use Access Canberra services.
Access Canberra is making it easier for those who are deaf or hard of hearing to use its services.
It has commenced a 12-month trial of Auslan interpreting service at its Service Centres.
Convo Access is the name of the service. Canberrans can connect to it at no cost by scanning a QR code with their device. This enables the customer service officer and the person using the service to better communicate with each other.
Convo Australia is providing the service. It’s a deaf-owned company that provides on-demand Auslan video interpreting services.
The new service expands on inclusive and accessible offerings at Access Canberra Service Centres, including:
- support for people with hidden disabilities
- support with different languages
- bookable appointments
- a quiet hour every Wednesday from 10am-11am.
Access Canberra is using this technology to make government services easier to navigate for all Canberrans. The service is now available across all Access Canberra Service Centres. Staff have also completed deaf awareness training to make the customer experience better.
